Site FAQ

Q: What is the gospel?

A: Regardless of ethnic or racial heritage, each and every person born naturally into this world is incapable of pure goodness or even to comprehend truth on his or her own. The good news of the gospel is that the Creator God of the universe took upon Himself the responsibility to solve this problem in order to provide a way for each person to return to fellowship in Him, which means to enter into the pure, perfectly divine fullness of His love – a love that comprehends truth and acts in peaceful charity by faith in His just judgment of the earth. People living by this faith do not forcefully impose their definition of truth, or love, upon others by the sword, although they are devoutly faithful to the word of God.

Q: Who sponsors this web site?
A: This web site is sponsored by Good News for Israel, a 125 year old ministry dedicated to improving understanding and communication between the Jewish people and the broad, mostly Gentile, Christian community. This ministry works against anti-Semitism, for a better understanding of the Bible and the current situation in the Mideast, and for the salvation and blessings of all peoples beginning with the Jewish people and including all others - especially Muslims.

FAQ from an international fan website:

Q. When is the The Passion of the Christ going to be in theaters?

(A) Anticipated release date for US is February 25, 2004.

Q. Is The Passion of the Christ anti-Semitic?

(A) A report from the Anti-Defamation League, based on comments on an ad-hoc committee of both Jews and Christians, states that it may inspire feelings of anti-Semitism. Mel Gibson has stated that many of the ad-hoc committee's comments were based on an early script of The Passion of the Christ and that it does not reflect the final version of the film. Paul Lauer, spokesman for Gibson's Icon Productions, states that "Mel abhors anti-Semitism. In no way does his faith endorse hatred or bigotry or anti-Semitism or blame the Jews for the death of Christ."

Q. Is The Passion of the Christ only for Christians?

(A) Mel Gibson states in an interview in March of 2003, "'Gandhi' was a blockbuster hit, but it wasn't just for Hindus. This film is for everyone. For believers and nonbelievers, Jesus Christ is undoubtedly one of the most important historical figures of all time. Name one person who has had a greater impact on the course of history."

Q: Why did you develop this site?
A: Good News for Israel has invested in the development of this web site in order to further discuss this story of a man and his dream. It also examines the cultural and historical context of the controversies that surround Mel Gibson and his new movie. These controversies reflect some of the most serious questions facing western civilization today, and we believe that a better understanding of them would benefit millions, too. In fact, this story concerns “The Story” of Yeshua, the Jewish Savior Messiah who is the Hope of all humanity.

ADL and Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" FAQ

Q: What is the basis for ADL's concerns about Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ"?
A. ADL's concerns are based on a close study of an early screenplay and a viewing of the film on August 8, at which Mel Gibson was present.

Q: Who else shares ADL's objections?
A. The concerns are shared by responsible Catholic, Protestant and Jewish theologians, clergy and citizens. A committee of nine Jewish and Catholic scholars studied an early screenplay and unanimously found it to be historically inaccurate, unfaithful to the gospel narratives and to project a uniformly negative picture of Jews. Mr. Gibson and his Icon Productions were aware of and approved of the script study until they received its conclusions. The screenplay depicts the Jewish society at the time of Jesus as the central force behind the decision for crucifixion, graphically implying that the Jews bear the responsibility for the death of Jesus.
