Alenu: It Is Our Duty

It is our duty to acclaim the Master of all, to ascribe greatness to the Designer of Creation, Who did not make us like the nations of the earth, Who did not establish us as the families of the land, Who did not assign our inheritance like theirs, nor our share like all the multitudes. For they worship vanity and emptiness, praying to a god that does not save.

But we bow our knees and worship, giving thanks before the Sovereign King of kings, the Holy One, Blessed is He, Who stretches out the heavens and lays the foundation of the earth. His seat of honor is in the heavens above, and the Presence of His strength is in the soaring heights. He is God. There is no other. Our King is true. Nothing is beside Him. As it is written in His Torah:

"And you shall know today and let it rest in your heart, that the Lord, He is God in the heavens above and upon the earth below. There is no other."

Therefore, we hope in You, O Lord our God, to see quickly the majesty of Your strength, to cause idolatry to pass from the earth, to cut off the false gods completely, to restore the world to the Kingdom of the Sufficient One. And all flesh shall call upon Your Name and turn to You, all the wicked ones of the earth. May all those who dwell in the world acknowledge and know that to You every knee shall bow and every tongue shall swear. They will bow and fall down before You, O Lord our God, and they will give honor to Your precious Name. Everyone will receive the yoke of Your Kingdom, and soon You will reign over them forever and ever. For Yours is the Kingdom, and forever and ever You will reign gloriously. As it is written in Your Torah:

"The Lord shall reign forever and ever." And it is said: "And the Lord will reign upon the whole earth. In that day the Lord will be One and His Name One."
